How is the safety of participants on the boat ensured?
We take the safety of our participants very seriously. We have implemented extensive safety measures, including thorough instructions for the guides, coordination with the Canal Pride organizers and local authorities, and the provision of first aid personnel on board. All participants on our boat receive clear instructions via a comprehensive manual, and COC coordinators are appointed to quickly address any incidents on the boat.
How does COC address criticism from the community regarding the possible exclusion of certain groups?
We strive to be as inclusive as possible and are always open to feedback from both within and outside the community. We make every effort to maintain close contact with our members, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure that all voices are heard and that our activities are as representative as possible of the entire LGBTQ+ community. In the event of criticism, we reach out to the concerned groups to find solutions together.
What happens if the weather is bad during the Canal Pride?
In case of bad weather, we have taken various precautionary measures. Our boat is equipped with emergency supplies such as rain ponchos and coverings to protect the decorations and equipment. Additionally, we have agreements with the Canal Pride organizers to adjust the program if extreme weather conditions occur.
How does COC handle possible negative reactions from the public?
Internally, COC has developed protocols to handle negative reactions (both online and offline) appropriately. A crisis team, comprising Loretta Mulders and Lenny Houwaart, will be on standby throughout the Pride. The crisis team can be reached from 10 AM to 4 PM on the day itself. Moreover, safety teams trained in de-escalation techniques by Pride Amsterdam will be present, and there is close contact with the police to respond swiftly to any incidents.
What are the total costs of the project and how is it financed?
The total costs of the project are covered by a combination of subsidies, donations, and sponsorships. We ensure transparent financial accountability and collaborate with various partners to manage the costs. Each year, we publish a detailed financial report.
How does COC measure the success of their participation in the Canal Pride?
The success of our participation in the Canal Pride is measured by various criteria, including the visibility of our message, feedback from participants and spectators, and the media attention generated. After the parade, we conduct an evaluation to assess the impact and identify areas for improvement.
How does COC address sustainability and environmental friendliness during the parade?
We are committed to sustainability and environmental friendliness. Our boat is equipped with as many sustainable materials and reusable decorations as possible. Polluting party items, such as confetti, are banned throughout the Canal Pride. Additionally, we encourage participants to minimize and clean up waste, and we ensure proper waste management in collaboration with Pride Amsterdam.

Yes, we have several initiatives to support less visible groups within the LGBTQ+ community. These include programs like COC & Education, COC & 50+, COC & Culture & Faith, COC & Safety, and COC & International. We organize specific projects and events to involve and support these groups.
What challenges does COC currently face in their fight for LGBTQ+ rights?
We still face many challenges in our fight for LGBTQ+ rights, including ongoing discrimination and violence against LGBTQ+ individuals, both in the Netherlands and internationally. In nearly seventy countries, being queer is still punishable. Additionally, there are challenges in obtaining equal rights and protection for all community members, especially for transgender and intersex individuals. We continue to advocate for legal reforms, social acceptance, and safe living conditions for all LGBTQ+ individuals.
What is COC Nederland’s role during the Canal Pride?
Our role during the Canal Pride is to manifest pride, visibility, and solidarity for the LGBTQ+ community, while also conveying a political message. The event provides a platform to highlight the fight against LGBTQ+ discrimination and violence and to make a statement about the challenges and inequalities that the community still faces daily.
What is the theme of the COC boat during the Canal Pride?
The theme of our boat is unity within the LGBTQ+ community. The boat emphasizes the importance of connection and bringing together all voices and experiences to form an unstoppable force. This year’s slogan is: “It Takes Millions of Drops to Make a Rainbow. Let it F*cking Pour.”
How is the theme visually presented on the boat?
Our boat is designed in collaboration with illustrator and creative director Jessica Stahl of Vanillacooldance. The exact appearance of the boat is still a secret.
Who will be on board the COC boat?
The boat will feature many volunteers and members from various COC projects, as well as different TikTok creators, Jong&Out coordinators, refugees, and international human rights activists.
What is the dress code for the invitees?
We ask all invitees to dress in black. This allows everyone to maintain their own clothing style while ensuring that all attention is focused on the colors of the rainbow.
